Would you be surprised if I told you that an Oshkosh man worked alongside Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, and Richard Pryor? Well, this same man, Carl Strong, has also shared the stage with Gladys Knight and Aretha Franklin. In a move Strong has never done, he’s going to be playing a show in Oshkosh, where he’s lived now for quite some time. The proceeds from the show will go to benefit the Oshkosh Boys & Girls Club.
Strong agreed to do the show because, “The Boys and Girls Club is a worthy cause, and Lyle (the organizer of Fox Valley Comedy) really cares about kids.” Normally headlining cruise ships and Vegas shows, he felt this was a good time to get out of the house. In Strong’s childhood, the Boys and Girls Club, “was a second home for me. The boys club gave me something to do.”
Strong has a rich history in both comedy and singing. “I was a dancer before anything. With the dancin’ came the singing.” When asked of his most fond memory of sharing a stage with entertainment greats, he said, “Aretha Franklin was the most powerful woman I ever met. It was amazing.” This show will feature both Strong’s musical and comedy talents. The show will also be opened by local comedian Nick Brandl.
Scheduled for Friday August 28th at the Time Community Theater in Oshkosh, Strong will be headlining the show organized by Fox Valley Comedy. Fox Valley Comedy brings in premier local and regional talent to the Fox Valley in an effort to inspire up and coming comics and to open people’s eyes to great stand up comedy.
Fox Valley Comedy and the Time Community Theater are focused on safety. Capacity is limited to 27% at the Time Theater in an effort to maintain safe social distance while still providing hope and entertainment in this global moment lacking humor. The show is communal to its core, bringing laughter to the Valley, support to the Boys & Girls Club, and a new experience to a local legend in Carl Strong.
