OSHKOSH, WI – Gabe’s Wisconsin Kitchen and Tavern is a new restaurant specializing in scratch kitchen recipes ranging from salads to sandwiches to steaks. The Wisconsin-based establishment is owned by Steve Gabelbauer, who’s been an Oshkosh restaurant veteran for years. Nearly all of Gabe’s dishes are derived from two Gabelbauer family recipes. “Dad’s beer can chicken and mom’s pot roast.” Says Gabelbauer.
Gabe’s proudly uses many local Wisconsin ingredients in their recipes. When I visited, it became evident that they keep their meals simple yet packed with delicious and exciting flavors. Gabelbauer says it best, “No one has these recipes.” Therefore you’re bound to have an experience unique to Gabe’s.
After persistent requests, Gabelbauer’s mother gave him a cookbook of her favorite recipes for Christmas a few years ago. This was when the concept for Gabe’s was born. To this day, Steve’s mom travels from Beloit, WI to make her famous cheesecakes. Gabe’s is owner operated, and their staff takes a great deal of pride for their work. After talking to them, it’s clear they love the community that they get to serve every day. Check Gabe’s out at 1160 N Westhaven Dr, Oshkosh, WI 54904.
