Is it just me or is our desire to do so many things on Saturdays and Sundays so overwhelming that oftentimes we only end up doing one or two things each weekend day? There are so many options of “things to do” in the Fox Cities (especially during the good ol’ non – pandemic days) that it can be kind of overwhelming, yet so exciting! We’ve put together our ideal day trip with no more than 30 minutes of traveling for the fall if you’re in the Appleton / Fox cities area. It really doesn’t get much better than that!
Stop 1: Coffee
The day will start out at no other than ACOCA Flats location. For starters, ACOCA roasts their own coffee. That alone is reason enough to start your day there! But, the flats location is beautiful! They are located in the same building as Tandem Wine and Beer at 101 West Edison Avenue in Appleton. Grab a cup of one of their fall drinks – their pumpkin spice latte (c’mon, you have to) is absolutely delicious, and that is coming from someone who is not usually a fan of pumpkin flavored anything!
The reason that it stands out against other PSL’s is because the pumpkin flavor is mild and tastes real for a lack of better words. It is not your average fake flavor tasting pumpkin additive. If you aren’t a pumpkin fan, I respect that. You won’t be disappointed in their nitro coffee or honestly – any of their drinks. While at ACOCA, spend some time enjoying their outdoor patio and then take a stroll down by the river. It is the perfect way to start out your big day!
Stop 2: Apple Picking & Maybe a Zipline?
Once you are properly caffeinated from your first or maybe second (we don’t judge) cup of ACOCA coffee, you’re in for a quick 18 minute, 7.9 mile commute. Located just north of ACOCA at W3964 Wege Road in Freedom, is Hofacker’s Hillside Orchard. Before you go, you must check out their Facebook page to prepare so that you know exactly what you can pick that day and what they will have pre-picked. Hofacker’s does a wonderful job of keeping their Facebook fans up to date on everything they would need to know to prepare for their trip to visit them. Some of the offerings at Hofacker’s include – apple cider donuts (holy delicious! Get it?), caramel apples, pick your own apples, a pumpkin patch, a corn maze and a *zip line!
Note: We do want to make sure that you are aware – not all of these things are available every day, but as already mentioned, their Facebook page will give you all the necessary details daily! Go ahead, spend a couple of hours enjoying this beautiful place and pick as many apples as your heart desires, your family will thank you for that apple pie later!
Stop 3: Scenic Lunch. More Coffee?
The sweets at Hofacker’s might have hit the spot, but probably won’t hold you over very long. Get back in the car for 22 minutes, 15 miles and you will land over at The River Coffee and Cream. You guessed it, this place is on the river. You will now find yourself in a beautiful location in Wrightstown, Wisconsin. The River Coffee and Cream is located at 104 High Court. If you want to pre-salivate, check out their Facebook page and go to their photos. Their salads and sandwiches look phe-no-me-nal. They have a new deck open this year to help you enjoy their views as well – you can watch the fall colors turn right in front of your eyes!
Stop 4: Wine and Music and Beer, Oh My!
With a full belly you will be ready for the next part of your day trip – wine! A quick 7 minute, 4.1 mile drive away is LedgeStone Vineyards at 6381 State Highway 57 in Greenleaf, Wisconsin. LedgeStone Vineyards is currently opening outdoors only, but we are 10000% OK with that because…. Have you seen their outdoor spot? It is absolutely beautiful. They encourage you to bring blankets and lawn chairs, because well, it is fall already! You can also enjoy locally crafted beer from the new Gnarly Cedar Brewery. Gnarly Cedar just hit their 1 year anniversary and currently share a space with LedgeStone.
They are often having live music outside to enjoy while you sip one of their delicious wines. These events can be found on their Facebook page. LedgeStone offers more than just wine – they also carry beer and the ever famous charcuterie boards! This trendy dish is popping up everywhere because the eye appeal is intense but they are also delicious! You will likely be trying something you’ve never had when ordering a charcuterie board or simply pairing items you never thought would go together, but totally do!
This day trip is the perfect way to enjoy and support small businesses while also being able to be outdoors enjoying nature and staying safe during these weird times. We’d love to see pictures from you and your families enjoying this awesome day trip! Who’s going with you?
